Fruit Juices is the result of one of the famous performances by the Chinese artist Liu Bolin from the series Hiding in the city. Created in 2005 as a form of protest towards the destruction of his studio at Suojia Arts Camp in Beijing at the hands of the Chinese government, the photographic series features the artist as protagonist in shots that capture him after being painted with the same colours as the background, until he is completely invisible. In this particular artwork, after an accurate body painting that took two days, Liu Bolin camouflaged himself into some fruit juices, between the shelves of a supermarket, one of those places that, no matter the geographical origin, charaterizes the horizon of the contemporary human life. In the Fruit Juices photo, the vivid hues of the juices create a striking visual impact, while Liu Bolin's meticulous attention to detail ensures he almost disappears into the scene. The bottles, arranged on the supermarket displays, represent consumerism and the overwhelming presence of commercial products in everyday life. By integrating himself into these settings, Bolin challenges viewers to reconsider their perceptions of visibility and individuality in a consumer-driven world.
