The series Hiding in Italy has been the first major work of Liu Bolin outside his native country, and it has the same significance that the Grand Tour in Italy had for European artists in the past. Confronting places, architecture and artworks of a very different culture from his own has deepened the meaning of the learning process provided by his immersion and disappearance into those sites. In 2019 Liu Bolin realised a new performance at the Milan Cathedral, symbol of the city in the world, almost ten years after the first camouflage performed among the spires of the Milanese cathedral.
