biography

Sandro Chia (Florence, 1946) is one of the leading exponents of the Trans-avant-garde, a term coined by the art critic Achille Bonito Oliva around 1980. Under this label it actually meets a composite group of five Italian artists. Besides Chia, they are Francesco Clemente, Nicola De Maria, Enzo Cucchi and Mimmo Paladino, who, with a pictorial and sculptural language inspired by the great masters of the past, conquered the success also overseas.
