On the occasion of the festival “Love and beauty are the supreme powers”, entirely dedicated to the theatrical work of Jan Fabre (at Teatro Out Off in Milan from September 10 to October 13), the Gaburro Gallery presents a solo exhibition of the Belgian master titled Stella, curated by Melania Rossi. The exhibition will be inaugurated on September 19, 2024, at the Milanese headquarters of the gallery, showcasing video installations, photographs, drawings, and sculptures.
In the video installation Schande übers ganze Erdenreich! (Shame on the whole earthly kingdom!), the protagonist-performer Stella Höttler plays Cassandra, the mythical prophetess in ecstasy. On stage with her are turtles, quintessential oracle animals, and guiding creatures honored by the artist in a special selection of exhibited sculptures and drawings.
Additionally, within the festival, the photographic series Smoking Stella will be presented, in which the same actress, still dressed in her colorful stage clothes, is shown in a relaxed backstage version. We see this beautiful woman playing with a lit cigarette: these photographs, strictly taken by the artist in analog, evoke Flemish interior painting and also erotic photography from the 1970s.
Teatro Out Off in Milan will premiere five monologues by the artist: Simona, the gangster of art with Irene Urciuoli, I am a mistake with Irene Urciuoli, I’m sorry with Stella Höttler (world premiere on September 17), Elle était et elle est, même with Els Deceukelier, and I believe in the legend of love with Ivana Jozić.
