Liu Bolin (Shandong, 1973), the world-famous Chinese performer is back to Italy to create a new series of shots dedicated to our country, after a long hiatus due to the pandemy.
The Italian artworks have as background some of the most iconic places in the world from an historical-artistic point of view. To name just a few, Liu Bolin camouflaged into universal art masterpiece such as Paolina Bonaparte Borghese statue by Antonio Canova and Caravaggio's art pieces exhibited at Galleria Borghese, he vanished into Pompei archaeological site and into the Royal Palace of Caserta.
The decade-long series Hiding in Italy has been exhibited at Forma Foundation for Photography of Milan (2010), at H. C. Andersen Museum of Rome (2012), at Bocconi University of Milan (2019). The Complesso del Vittoriano of Rome and MUDEC Museum of Milan have promoted two retrospective exhibitions dedicated to Liu Bolin, in 2018 and in 2019 respectively.
This time around the project born from the collaboration between the artist and Galleria Gaburro, art gallery that represents Liu Bolin in Italy and has always staged the series produced in our country so far, has been realised in Florence, city of art par excellence and cradle of the Italian Renaissance, portrayed in 6 brand new photos.
