From March 24 to June 27 2021 the Bank Austria Kunstforum of Vienna will dedicate a retrospective to Daniel Spoerri. Daniel Spoerri, was born as Daniel Feinstein in Galaţi / Romania in 1930, he emigrated to Zurich in 1942, after his father's killing in a Romanian pogrom. Now he lives and works in Vienna, after working in Paris, New York, Symi, Toggwil (Ueberstorf) and Düsseldorf, among the others. In  Giardino di Daniel Spoerri  at Seggiano in Tuscany, he exhibits since 1997, the sculptures of his prominent collegues such as Eva Aeppli, Meret Oppenheim, Nam June Paik, Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely.

His snare pictures (in French: Tableaux piège) went down in art history. The exhibition at Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien gives an overview on the Spoerri's work as artist and keen collector who uses almost every artistic media. His versatile work focused on the social interactions and on sensory perceptions of everyday life - particularly the sense of taste - for 60 years. Beside his assemblage and collage made with everyday materials, on display are also exhibited the bronze sculptures realized from 1970 onwards, as well as his artworks which combine words with fabrics, and his performances, often realized in collaboration with other artists. This intermediality is common to Daniel Spoerri's biography too: he studied ballet (supported by Max Terpis), An Anecdoted Topography of Chance, literary counterpart of his tableaux piège, he worked with Fluxus artists such as Emmett Williams and Robert Filliou, he founded several restaurants, he launched the Eat Art and still today he organizes banquettes.

From 1978 to 1982 Daniel Spoerri taught in Cologne, where he realized exhibition projects and banquettes with students, and from 1983 to 1989 he was professor at Fine Arts Accademy of Munich. His works has been on display in many international exhibitions, including the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (1990), mumok - Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig Vienna (2002) and MOCAK - Museum of Contemporary Art, Cracow (2015). The archive Daniel Spoerri has been managed and constantly developed by the National Swiss Library of Bern since 1996. In Hadersdorf am Kamp, since 2009, temporary exhibits have been held in Spoerri exhibition house, allowing the dialogue between Daniel Spoerri's artworks and the ones by his famous collegues.
